RIPPEY LIBRARY

I am back to work at the library, but I haven’t been good about sending in news. I have ordered several new books. Come in and check them out.
I have had several visitors at the library. They found out the library is a good place to look up lost relatives.
We had our monthly board meeting the last week in February. The library was given some new games and a puzzle. Some of our toys and games have seen better days.
We are also planning an anniversary in April. Now it will be 76 years. We are hoping the Lions Club, who has been in existence 76 years also, will join us for a reception on April 25. No final plans yet, but I think it will be 2-4 in the afternoon, with cookies and drinks.
Jean Borgeson has so much history on both of the organizations, plus other history about buildings that are now gone. The 150th year of our town has prompted some searching for information. Watch for more news on this.
I am going to a meeting about summer reading March 9 in Johnston. Brenda Roberts has agreed to do summer reading, but can’t make the meeting. The theme is “Imagine Your Story!”
This month we will be joining the county librarians and the supervisors in sponsoring a teen movie. It will be March 20 at the Sierra Theater in Jefferson. The movie is “Call of the Wild.”
I also went to the supervisors meeting with three other librarians March 2. They were asking for funding to finish out digitizing newspapers. Churdan, Scranton, and Grand Junction are doing this. The Rippey News was in the Globe Free Press. Those newspapers are in the Grand Junction library. All the old papers are falling apart. It will be good to have them online so people can read them.
RIPPEY NEWS, LIONS CLUB –
The Rippey Lions Club met for a potluck meal recently. During the meeting the group decided to donate to worthy causes, including the Relay for Life in memory of Velda DeMoss and Volunteers in Optometric Service to provide eyecare in Costa Rico, Ecuador and other countries.
Mary Liebich introduced Kayla Willms, Greene County youth and 4-H coordinator, and Tieryn Tucker of Grand Junction, president of the Young Leaders. They shared about the 4-H program in the county and an interesting project which had been presented to 4-H groups challenging the men’s and women’s team to build a tower with spaghetti, tape, string with a marshmallow on top. The women won.
The next regular meeting will be March 19 at 7 pm at the Rippey United Methodist Church. ~ Nancy Hanaman, Reporting
MUSIC CONCERTS – Pete and Yvette Bardole and Aden went to Emmetsburg Saturday to hear the Greene County Jazzatonics sing. Avery Bardole is part of this group. They received a I rating. They all stayed Saturday night in Plover with Yvette’s mother, Vicki Kerns, and drove home Sunday morning.
Arthur is in the Statesmen group at Iowa State University. They had a concert at 1:30 Sunday afternoon in Ames. Roy and Phyllis Bardole went to the concert also. It is always enjoyable to hear the group perform. Pete, Yvette, Arthur, Avery, and Aden went out to eat after the concert. Roy and Phyllis returned home.
SISTERS VISIT – Phyllis Bardole went to see her sister Valerie Ogren, Saturday afternoon. Valerie is having her knee replaced in Omaha on Thursday this week. She will be staying there for three days and then comes back to Carroll to another facility that will be able to give her more care than at Sunnybrook during her rehabilitation.
TREAT FOR GRANDMA – On Thursday, March 6, Jean Borgeson joined her daughter and grandchildren, Linda Borgeson-Hampton, Sierra, Jayden and Sophia for an evening of music presented by the Concordia University, Irvine, CA, for the first stop on their Arizona tour. Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Tempe, hosted the event.
Titled “My God is a Rock,” the singers were directed by Dr. Marin Jacobson and accompanied by Dr. Rachel Ehring. The women’s select choir and the men’s chorus performed their repertoire for the first time to an appreciative audience.
It was an enjoyable evening and the kids didn’t get too restless. Jayden said his favorite songs were when the singers clapped their hands and snapped their fingers.
Dale and Nancy Hanaman will have granddaughters Elizabeth and Andrea Pearson of Superior, WI, visiting during their school’s spring break. It’s a fun time for all.
